Eric Chavez Breaks bone in foot

Eric Chavez of the New York Yankees has broke his 5th metatarsal bone. The metatarsal is the bone behind the toe. This type of injury can occur from turning in your foot. There are many different treatment options to treat these types of fractures. Some are treated conservatively and some must be through surgical intervention. Bone typically takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Sometimes you may need to be either casted or placed in a fracture boot. You may or may not need to be weight-bearing. This all depends on the extent of the fracture. A Jones fracture is a type of fifth metatarsal fracture which has a decrease in blood supply to the metatarsal bone. These typically may need surgical intervention to allow for adequate healing to occur. It is always important to see your podiatrist with any type of injury that you have. This also includes ankle sprains. With ankle sprains we will check your foot because you can also fracture your fifth metatarsal bone. For more information please visit our website. Thank you
